Media relations and Event Management for the Unveiling of the portraits of Sir John Berry and Lady Berry
Client:
The Portrait Gallery of Canada
Challenge:
Based on the success of our media relations and event management efforts for an earlier event, our team was again retained by the Portrait Gallery of Canada to assist with the unveiling of one of its most prestigious acquisitions. Two oil portraits, one of Sir John Berry and the other of his wife, Lady Berry; were acquired by the Portrait Gallery with the help of a number of public and private donors. Their unveiling in St. John’s, Newfoundland was particularly important as Sir John Berry is considered the “Founding Father” of Newfoundland, given his recommendation to the British Government that settlers be allowed to stay on the island when plans at the time were to evict them.
Project:
- Developed a customized media strategy that included information related to the media landscape in Newfoundland and created a detailed media list.
- Worked closely with the Portrait Gallery, Library and Archives Canada, Canadian Heritage and The Rooms in St. John’s to plan and implement all of the logistics for the event.
- Communicated regularly with Government House in St. John’s to ensure that proper protocal procedures were were in place for the appearance of the Lieutenant Governor and his wife at the unveiling.
- Created a highly visual invitiation for the event and produced a bilingual souvenir brochure which served both as an event programme and as a “take-away” for guests.
- Developed and distributed media kits for the event which included the media advisory, news release, backgrounder and Q & As.
- Pitched the event to key reporters to ensure media attendance and coverage and provided on-site media relations support.
Results:
Overall, the event was a complete success and our team garnered media coverage of the event on every major St. John’s media outlet.
